Hi. One of my professors this semester will be using MOODLE, so I logged on to see how well it works with JAWS. From all I've tried, I can't access my courses. There is a my courses element that JAWS is calling a menu submenu. When I press enter, or space or click on it, it opens like a forms mode box. Then, when I press enter or space, or click on it, it leaves the box, but doesn't actually bring anything up. I've tried JAWS cursor, and routing JAWS to PC cursor. I've tried NVDA. I've tried it in IE and in Firefox. I even disabled javascript in Firefox and retried it with JAWS and NVDA. Turning javascript off did allow JAWS to recognize the my course menu as a link, but a link that cannot be activated. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Maranda. I just wanted to at least lend my support. I needed to use Moodle for a while also in Canada. Didn't know it was so wide spread. We're no longer using it, but I don't recall the actual menu you're speaking of. I do remember moodle in general being a bit finicky at times, but not altogether inaccessible. I find those drop down menus overall can be difficult, even on websites where accessibility has been thought of.
This is strange.
I have to use moodle for my classes as well and don't have this issue. I use it in internet explorer with jaws 15.
One thing you might do is talk to the school's helpdesk and see what they say.
I think the moodle at my college is running in text only mode or something.
Moodle's definitely a pain, but it can be delt with.
I know there's some discrepancy as far as moodle's versions, so some versions may b e more accessible than others.
Good luck. I know how frustrating this can be.
At least Moodle is better than blackboard.
I have no real issues with Moodle. I have used it now for two years. One thing that I sometimes find I have to do in Internet Explorer is hit the insert z command, and then hit it again, to toggle on and off virtual cursor. On the rare occasions where navigation is stubborn for me, this command almost always works, so you may want to try that. Let us know if this helps.
Yes, I have used moodle at least I am required to for this current class. From what I attempted, I had no real problems with moodle, that is at the present moment.
I know I'm a bit late, but thank you to everyone who replied to this question. I downloaded Window Eyes since I have Microsoft Word and was able to work through my issue, and eventually there was no longer a problem, even when using JAWS. I will try your suggestions if it comes up again, though, especially insert z. I always forget about the virtual cursor.
